Solar powered car - Save power today.

These cars are not common and are not used for every day transportation. But are exercised frequently by companies and in the future there would be a time when the only medium would be solar cars. Solar car races are held frequently and more people are starting to take interest in these solar powered cars. Some of the races in which these solar cars compete are the World Solar Challenge and the American Solar Challenge. These events are held at a very large scale and sponsors such as the United States Department of Energy take interest in it every year. These sponsors are very much interested to promote these solar cars. This alternative energy technology is gaining popularity day by day. Teams such as GM and Ford have started taking interest in these solar car races and this shows how much important this alternative energy technology is going to be.

These solar cars are designed while keeping in mind the energy constraints which are imposed by all race regulations. These rules clearly say that the energy can be taken only form the sun and not from any other means of energy. The solar car is usually single seated with just the driver seat but some also have a second passenger seat. These solar powered cars contain the features of brakes and acceleration just like normal cars. These cars are emphasized mainly on the electric system and that is the main component of the car. The battery pack in the car has the same role that the fuel tanks play in ordinary and normal cars. Batteries such as lead acid, nickel metal and nickel cadmium are used in these cars.

Weight plays an important part in these cars as the more lighter they better they will run on the road. These cars usually run on three wheels but in some cars four wheels are also seen. Disk brakes are commonly used in solar cars and that is the main reason of their perfect handling. The mechanical and hydraulic brakes are also used widely. A day will come when these solar cars could be seen every where dues to their anti hazardous nature and a easy way to recharge.
